British Standards Institute Membership
BSI is a business standards company helping organizations worldwide make excellence a habit. As an active member of the British Standards Institute, Hughes demonstrates a commitment to best practices and continually improving our performance and efficiency.
Hughes take safety very seriously and as an EN 15154 safety committee member we can help shape the standard, improve public safety, reduce risk and be at the forefront of innovation in the safety field.
ISO 9001:2015 certified
ISO 9001 is an internationally recognised quality management system and the only ISO standard that requires certification. Certification indicates a dedication to efficiency and quality leading to better quality products, improved reporting and customer communication and more reliable production scheduling for accurate delivery times.
Changes introduced in the 2015 ISO 9001 revision are intended to ensure that ISO 9001 continues to adapt to the changing environments in which organizations such as Hughes operate.
ISO 45001:2018 certified
ISO 45001:2018 launched worldwide on 12 March 2018. ISO 45001 is the first globally developed standard for health and safety management systems. It reflects current safety management trends and techniques and will eventually replace up to 24 national safety standards around the world, including OHSAS 18001.
This standard will help organizations to improve employee safety, reduce workplace risks and create better, safer working conditions, all over the world. The standard was developed by a committee of occupational health and safety experts, and follows other generic management system approaches such as ISO 14001 and ISO 9001.
BS EN ISO 14001:2015 certified
BS EN ISO 14001:2015 is an internationally agreed standard that sets out the requirements for an environmental management system. It helps organizations improve their environmental performance through more efficient use of resources and reduction of waste, gaining a competitive advantage and the trust of stakeholders.
This standard helps Hughes to achieve the intended outcomes of our environmental management system, providing value for the environment. The standard was updated in 2015 to make sure it reflects the needs of modern day business.
British Safety Industry Federation Member
Hughes is the first emergency safety shower company to become a member of the British Safety Industry Federation (BSIF), the UK's leading trade body within the safety industry. The BSIF is the major independent voice for the UK safety industry, recognised by both the Health and Safety Executive and the principal association for the PPE regulation.
They have active input across Government departments putting them at the forefront of influencing legislation. Their work with Government enforcing agencies, standards authorities, safety equipment manufacturers, distributors, users and sector associations mean they are leading the way in educating and advising on topical industry issues that affect worker safety and health.
British Safety Industry Federation Registered Safety Supplier
The Registered Safety Suppliers scheme is designed to ensure that end users are only suppled with compliant, effective PPE equipment. The ultimate aim, via parliamentary lobbying, is to make the scheme the expected Safety and Health benchmark for product quality and compliance.
All Registered Safety Suppliers are independently audited each year by subjecting products to random testing for performance and compliance to claimed standards.By using a Registered Safety Supplier you can be sure you will only be supplied with genuine, appropriately approved product and you will receive sound advice without any attempt to mislead you.
British Safety Council Member
The British Safety Council (BSC) is a global health, safety and environmental charity set-up to provide training, support, advice, events and networking opportunities to its members around the world. As a member of the BSC, Hughes work to achieve the goal that no-one should be injured in the workplace.
As a qualified member, Hughes help to develop best practice in the sector whilst shaping and staying in line with evolving standards and legislation. For over sixty years the BSC been a trusted guide to excellent health, safety and environmental management.

RoSPA is a registered charity that has been at the heart of accident prevention in the UK and around the world for almost 100 years. RoSPA’s vision is drawn from our respect for life and all that it contains – the freedom to enjoy personal choices, health, happiness, wellbeing, relationships, and a huge variety of life-affirming activities.

Hughes has been awarded the prestigious Investors in People (IIP) Gold Standard - joining the top thirteen per cent of accredited organisations across the UK, demonstrating our commitment to high performance through good people management.
Safety and Health Excellence Award Winner
Hughes are proud to have been awarded Best Health and Safety in Manufacturing at the SHE Awards 2019. This award recognises the successful implementation of a Good Catch System which helped in achieving a positive and exemplary health and safety culture at Hughes. The system is based on employee suggestions and ideas, and drives continual improvement.
The SHE Awards was launched in 2018 and it aims to recognise the key role that companies and individuals play in keeping people and premises safe. An esteemed panel of key industry figures whittled down more than 200 entries to a shortlist of 91 entries across ten categories.
